2010

  • October: Athens Ohio Roller Derby founded by Jessica Beckford "Madam Kracka Le Whipski" and 12 founding members

  • First practices held, bringing roller derby to southeastern Ohio

2012

First Home Game

  • June 23: First home game played at Bird Arena in Athens, Ohio

  • Over 900 fans attended the inaugural home bout

  • AORD defeated Glass City Rollers of Toledo, Ohio in their first victory


2013-2016

Growth Years

  • League continues to grow but plays primarily away from home

  • Development of the Appalachian Hell Betties as the league's all-star team

  • Continued community service and non-profit partnerships throughout the region

2017

Return to Athens

  • Live roller derby returns to Athens after more than 4 years of skating away from home

  • Addition of a second team to the league: The Black Diamond Betties

  • July: Black Diamond Betties played their first game against Southern Ohio Bruisers and won 155 to 121

2018-2022

League Evolution

  • Hosted multiple home games including doubleheaders and inter-league scrimmages

  • Continued growth in membership and community involvement

  • Further development of training programs and skill-building initiatives

2023

Continued Growth

  • Expanded membership and increased demand for participation

  • Strengthened partnerships with local organizations sharing AORD values

  • Enhanced community outreach initiatives

CURRENT INITIATIVES

  • Expanded opportunities for participation at various skill levels

  • Continued progress toward long-term goals including WFTDA certification

  • Strengthened stance on inclusivity and diversity

  • Preparing for 15th anniversary in October 2025
