What inspired you to join the league? I roller skated throughout my entire childhood and was also an avid roller blader for many years. I knew the league existed but never really thought about joining until I ended up working with one of the referees. I joined as a way to stay in good physical shape, but roller derby has ended up being so much more than that!

How did you come up with your derby name? It’s a play on words for what my grandkids call me. They call me Maimie! So I just played around until I found something that rhymed and flowed. LOL

What is your best derby memory? Probably getting back on the track after donating a kidney!

What is your profession? I am an event coordinator.

Do you have any pre-bout rituals? I try to have my jersey and gear laid out the night before and also try to eat well. That doesn’t always happen! Ha! The day of, I throw on bout makeup and bolt out the door.

Which of your teammates make you laugh the most? Definitely Erma Gerd! We probably shouldn’t sit together at practice.

What advice would you give someone who is considering joining the league? DO IT! It will change your life! You’ll find your tribe :)
